Architectural Iron Company has developed the American Bollard line of ornamental bollards in iron and steel that are proudly produced here in the United States.
‘What is a bollard?’ you may ask. A bollard is a short vertical post that can be used to direct traffic, restrict motor vehicle access and protect buildings, pedestrians, marquees, garage entrance walls, lampposts, trees or anything else of value.
Similar to steel pipe bollards, most of our bollards have an integral Schedule 40 steel pipe. Added to this steel pipe are one or more cast iron decorative elements. Using ornamental iron castings over an integral steel pipe creates a durable, decorative bollard that serves a protective objective while maintaining a high aesthetic standard.
Different applications may require specific bollard heights. With our smooth shaft bollards we can easily offer custom heights without a drastic increase in cost. We can also offer custom height fluted bollards if required. Several bollard styles are offered in different diameters as well.
Need eyelets for chain attachment? Not a problem. Just let us know what your needs are and we would be happy to include preinstalled eyebolts on your bollards.
Have existing steel pipe bollards that you would like to dress-up? Let us know the outside diameter of your existing pipe and we will see what bollard components we can offer you.
Take a look at our available bollard styles, choose an installation type and send us your contact details and we will be happy to prepare for you a detailed quote including freight and packing charges, terms of payment, lead time and other pertinent details.
Our direct burial (DB) bollards are designed for permanent installations where there is no need to remove the bollards and the ground condition allows for pipe embedment. The integral steel pipe of the bollard extends below the bottom of the exposed base casting and continues below grade for 24-36″ (depending on bollard style or your specification). The portion of the pipe below the base casting is typically set in concrete similar to what is shown in our direct burial bollard drawings.
Our flange/surface mount bollards (F) are for permanent installations where you will not need to remove the bollards at any point and your available embedment depth would not allow the use of a direct burial installation or you have existing concrete. The bottom of the bollard will have a steel mounting plate with holes for attachment using threaded rods or hex head bolts or something similar. Some clients have opted to use these bollards in a ‘removable’ fashion even though that was not the original intention of the design.
Our removable bollards (R) allow the bollard to be lifted up and out of the supplied steel sleeve to allow access past the installation point. The supplied steel sleeve is set in the ground similar to our direct burial bollards. The ornamental bollard is then slid down into the sleeve and can be lifted out at any point for access when needed. Please be mindful of the weight of the cast iron and steel bollards and your available man power or equipment.
Our removable/lockable bollards (RL) are nearly identical to our removable bollards with the exception of an added locking mechanism to prevent unauthorized removal of the bollards. Our standard locking mechanism uses a keyed lock buttonhead securing bolt. The supplied key is required to remove the securing bolt to allow removal of the bollard from the embedded sleeve.
